Sexual health and contraception quiz

Question 1:

If you have Chlamydia, can it prevent you from having children in the future if  it is left untreated?

Answer...

Yes!

Why?

If it is treated early it is unlikely to cause any long-term problems however, without proper treatment the infection can spread up into the womb in women and to the testicles (balls) in men.

If left untreated, females with chlamydia can develop long-term pelvic pain, blocked tubes, ectopic pregnancy (where a pregnancy develops in the tube) and infertility (stop you having children). Chlamydia can also spread to the liver causing pain and inflammation.  Males can develop a painful infection in the testicles (balls).  Chamydia can possibly stop men having children in the future too.

Question 2:

Can contraceptive pills/injections/implants/patches make you infertile (unable to have babies) if you take them for a long time?

Answer...

No!

Why?

There is no evidence to prove that hormonal contraceptive methods lead to infertility.

Question 3:

Can you still have periods if you are pregnant?

Answer...

Yes!

Why?

It is quite rare for females to have periods during pregnancy but it does happen! Periods during pregnancy can sometimes be caused for the following two reasons:
1) Sometimes the hormone levels in pregnancy aren't high enough to prevent the lining of the womb breaking away.
2) Something other than a period could be causing the bleeding such as ectopic pregnancy (where the baby develops in tubes) or another cause such as polyps on the cervix (problems with the neck of the womb) or a miscarriage.

Question 4:

Can you catch a sexually transmitted infection from someone who hasn't had full sex before (a virgin)?

Answer...

Yes!

Why?

You can catch sexually transmitted infections from giving a blow job or going down on someone. Sexually transmitted infections are easily spread so if you rub your bits on a male or female who has an infection for instance, you could become infected.

Question 5:

Can you tell if a girl/boy has a sexually transmitted infection by looking at their bits?

Answer...

No!

Why?

The only way you can be certain they have an infection is by having a test. Don't delay having a test as some sexually transmitted infections don't show any symptoms.
